Insight on my fitness journey

EVERYONE HAS THAT IDEAL IMAGE OF THEMSELVES WHETHER THEY LIKE TO ADMIT IT OR NOT.

Some people have what it takes to just sign up for a gym and start down that road of bettering themselves.

But what about the people that want it but can’t bring themselves through the gym door?

When I first joined a gym, I walked into the gym in the worst shape of my life, stuck at a desk job, smoking close to twenty cigarettes a day, stuck in my ways, and had zero self-confidence.

I walked into that gym and saw all the girls and guys in decent shape going from machine to machine, throwing weights around that looked like I could never move. So I did what most people do…straight to the cardio area.

4 months passed and I was still a fat ass but could run for an hour straight. I spent 5 days a week on cardio looking at the other people moving weight around and looking like they had a much better time than I was, one day I woke up early and

Getting to the gym at 6 am and couldn’t bring myself to get on another bloody cardio machine.

I walked into the weights area and got on youtube to try and figure out a basic weights workout, and that was me, 5 days a week doing weights. It was fun, I’m not going to lie I walked around with imposter syndrome for a month but I stuck with it and before I knew it I was dropping body fat and feeling so much better about myself and had plenty of gas in the tank to keep pushing.

TWELVE MONTHS IN I MANAGED TO LOSE FIVE STONE, LOOKED TOTALLY DIFFERENT, AND DARED TO LEAVE THE JOB I HAD HATED FOR YEARS. NOW DON’T GET ME WRONG I HAD TO CLEAN UP MY DIET BUT ILL SAVE THAT FOR ANOTHER TIME.

You don’t need to have it all figured out before you go to the gym, the most important part is just to go to the gym, you will figure it out if you are persistent, a big tip is to find the right gym for you if your in a toxic environment you will fail, try and find a place that is full of like-minded people, it doesn’t matter what paragraph they are on in their own story but try and surround yourself with positive people that will help you up and not put you down.

If you do really struggle to get your head around a routine find a personal trainer that can give you the knowledge you need. But be careful that also can be a minefield, do your due diligence and find a good one, there are a lot of PTs out there that are useless and you might as well burn your hard earnt money, or maybe try an online program from a coach, with everything in the world getting more expensive this could be a cheaper way to get what you need for a fraction of the price of one to one sessions.

Whatever route you go down, as long as you don’t quit, I can guarantee you will feel better about yourself in 12 months’ time, hell even 6 months’ time. Just take control, forget what you think people will think of you, most likely than not, they won’t even be judging you, it’s your own paranoia telling you that people care about what you are doing when in reality they are too busy worrying about their own problems.

Anyone can change their appearance and gain confidence, you just need to take the leap and not look back, climb out of your hole and keep pushing forward. 6-12 months isn’t long in the grand scheme of things, you’ll learn new things about yourself and create new friends and memories on the journey, you owe it to your future self.
